We at Farmers Insurance and the Kitajima Agency feel that is our job to help you understand the coverage options you have. Here are some general descriptions of auto insurance coverages that are available for you. Please feel free to contact us anytime if you would like to go over your coverage options!
Liability (Bodily Injury and Property Damage):
- Liability is how much we would pay up to in case you injure someone or damage someone’s property (The most common example is if you hit and damage someone’s car).
- The more coverage you have the less chance you would have to pay out of your pocket to pay for the other party’s injuries or damages to their property.
- This coverage is required by law to drive and also required to register your car
Uninsured Motorist Coverage:
- Uninsured Motorist Coverage pays for your injuries if somebody without insurance hits you and injures you and/or your passengers
- Although this coverage is recommended for you to carry to protect yourself against uninsured motorist, it is not required for you to carry
Comprehensive Coverage:
- Comprehensive coverage fixes or replaces your vehicle up to the actual cash value of your car in case of theft, fire, vandalism, falling objects, riots, storms, earthquakes, floods, or collision with a animal and other natural occurrences
- There is a deductible of usually either $500 or $1,000. The higher your deductible the lower your payments
- Making a comprehensive claim to fix or replace your vehicle does not increase your future rates
- This coverage is not required by law but most finance companies will require you to carry it if your car is being financed
Collision Coverage:
- Collision coverage fixes or replaces your vehicle up to the actual cash value of your car in case you damage your car by hitting another car or object
- There is a deductible of usually either $500 or $1,000. The higher your deductible the lower your payments
- Making a collision claim would increase your future rates for 3 years if the accident was your fault.
- This coverage is not required by law but most finance companies will require you to carry it if your car is being financed
